Stanley Coren, who wrote The Intelligence Of Dogs, and I think that you should be aware of what some other people think on the subject. Fact is, I miss my dogs----but I don't want to get any dogs.

We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet; and amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us. Maurice Maeterlinck

A dog is not "almost human". And I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such. John Holmes

My dog can bark like a Congressman, fetch like an aide; beg like a press secretary and play dead like a receptionist when the phone rings. Congressman Gerald Solomon

No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as a dog does. Christopher Morley

You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says "My God! You're right! I NEVER would have thought of that!" Dave Barry

I have known a few dogs, especially puppies, who were almost as stupid as humans in their reactions. Robert Benchley

If dogs could talk perhaps we would find it as difficult to get along with them as we do with people. Karel Capek
