You probably don't
remember but last summer in an email I mentioned that I considered Paul
Johnson as the greatest contemporary historian. You fired back at that
time an email touting Doris Kearns Goodwin as the greatest contemporary
historian. Today Doris settled out of court with two historians whose
work she had liberally plagiarized without attribution. Now folks like
me and Senator Joe Biden can get away with that because we are not professional
writers. Doris is a professional writer and even though the settlement
was not disclosed the New York Times called it "substantial sum
of money". I forget the name of the people she plagiarized, but
one was a woman named Lynne Taggert, the other was a man and I don't
remember his name. Doris was also referred to on the TV as "an
Iconic liberal", whatever that means.
Conservative military
historian Stephen Ambrose also settled a plagiarism case today.
Just wanted to crow
a little about Doris, who is very likeable by the way , even if she
is an iconic liberal.
