Built from a Kit

I put together a desk from a kit
That sat for weeks on my bedroom floor
For all that time it tyrannized me
So petty and yet the stuff of nightmares.

Over it I stepped and stumbled
Pushed it aside and ignored it
Leaned it in places unobtrusive
Anything but open it and look.

I finally jumped in coaxed by a friend
And did my best to follow instructions
My hands were shaking as I built it
Sweating too much for such small labor.

I got it put together today
Enough to make it functional
Pulled up a chair and began to write
Put my foot where the drawers should go.
