Sonnet
4
I opted
for the walk to work today
The way a gauntlet
treacherous with ice
And baby steps
were all that would suffice
And even then
I fell along the way
I thought of how
your every step's so sure
As awkward and
reluctantly I'd creep
I knew that you
could do this in your sleep
The path responds;
it knows your motives pure
My intentions
would have seemed as chaste
The countenance
I wore would testify
I prayed the ice
would not give up the lie
The moment that
I tried to walk in haste
So please when
we go out tonight don't fuss
The earth has
differentiated us.
